Normal 1 handed R1 counter = 250 Damage. Counter damage (250) * counter modifier (120 aka 1.2) = 300. Now, if Weapon 2 landed the counter with a Thrust Type attack and the user is wearing the Leo Ring add ANOTHER 12.5% on top (that's the power of the Old Leo Ring) 300 * 1.125 = 337. 37 damage may not seem like much, but the effect is greater ...Never had to change it. So Ricards has the best dex scaling but medium base dmg, while the Espada has great dex scaling as well and higher base dmg. I honestly don't know at which point the scaling of Ricards outclasses the Espada. I would advice Ricards anyway, because I don't like that the on handed Strong attack of the Espade is a parry.With, it wrecks face. EDIT: oh, yeah and don't infuse with Fire - it reduces the damage drastically (and you can't use the Resin). They're faster, lighter, deal similar damage on trades, and often have better movesets. Rapiers and katanas were top tier in Dark Souls as they are in Dark Souls II. Spears have less usage, for some reason, but otherwise this looks to be the same in Dark Souls III - especially since it now gives casting speed. 2.Mace and Rapier are good, but they're really boring. life ring +3, robflynn, third dragon ring, leo if you want + swap to resistance rings when damaged or whatever. Ring of Blades and Flynn's Ring are ideal for both weapons.
